Waste Not, Want Not

This year I made myself a goal to start reading novels again. I read lots of magazines and "how-to" books, but I started reading novels again. By years end I will have completed 47 books! I am a slow reader, so this was a great goal and accomplishment. I read a number of novels about the Amish and their way of life. Nothing went to waste.
If you think about it, that explains Quilts. Years ago they were made from the scraps of fabric that was left-over from garmets that were made, or worn-out clothing. Today, most quilt-makers buy new and coordinated fabric. But making something out of what you already have on hand makes so much sense.
This is also a way to make crocheted and knitted items. Using up the scraps of yarn you have left-over.
Crazy Quilts can be made of almost any fabric or yarn and can be very beautiful. Remember, Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder.

Lessons from Grandma

Turns out Grandma was a pretty smart lady! She used the phrase "Use it Up, Wear it out, Make it Do, or Do Without" often during my childhood. I didn't really understand it, but I sure do now. In these lean economic times, it's becoming more of my daily life.

But in my crafting life, I've used her wisdom often! Making something from something is just plain wonderful!

Join my in my journeys to do just that. Some things I do are pretty simple, at least to me. I am learning that to others this is all new! Some things I do are more involved. Some are things I do with my grandchildren. And some are just for my pure enjoyment.
